From a young age, I have been fascinated by Eastern culture, lifestyles, and bodywork. In my early twenties, I travelled across Asia and encountered Shiatsu for the first time. Fascinated by the health benefits and enhanced well-being I received from bodywork, I explored both Western and Eastern techniques. With over 30 years of clinical practice, teaching, and ongoing study, I developed the Shinzui Shuhō program, my unique approach to manual therapy.
My home is in Fukuoka, in southern Japan, where I offer treatments at my practice. It is also in Fukuoka that we run our school, which I operate together with my wife, Hiroko, welcoming students from Japan and abroad. We love sharing our lifelong passion for bodywork through our treatments and courses.
My Shiatsu training
I trained for three years at the International Shiatsu School in Belgium and Switzerland, and then spent another four years at the Du Mai School, where I also received training to become a teacher. I later continued my Shiatsu studies at the Iokai School in Tokyo. I returned to Japan regularly for many years, studying with experienced practitioners and teachers to nurture and deepen my practice before relocating permanently to Japan.
Between 1996 and 2008, I was the founding director of a Shiatsu school in Sweden. During those years in Sweden, I served as a board member of the Swedish Shiatsu Federation and as a representative for the European Shiatsu Federation.
From 2006 until 2019, I served as the founding director of the Shinzui Shiatsu School in Belgium. I also travelled extensively to teach internationally at Shiatsu and bodywork training centres. During those years in Belgium, I served as the president of the Belgian Shiatsu Federation.
I also served as a representative of the Belgian Shiatsu Federation to the European Shiatsu Federation. From a young age, I have been fascinated by Eastern culture, lifestyles, and bodywork. Traditional Chinese Medicine
In parallel to my practice, for the past 25 years, I have studied on a regular basis Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.
Thai Massage and Chi Nei Tsang
I regularly spent time in Thailand and received intensive training from the great masters of traditional Thai massage and Chi Nei Tsang. For example 1995, I completed a six months intensive internship in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Western Manual Therapy
Being fascinated by the body and continually seeking to understand its workings, I love studying anatomy and different bodywork methods. I have been trained in Craniosacral therapy, Anatomy Trains, Functional Training, Fascia therapy, Visceral Manipulation, and more.
Qi Gong and Tai Chi Chuan
To help me to stay fit as a practitioner, I continue to practice, study and teach Qi Gong and Tai Chi Chuan. Since 2000 I have been a certified Qi Gong teacher, and I received the authorization to teach Tai Chi Chuan from Dan Docherty, who has been my primary Tai Chi Chuan teacher. The leading training I received in Thailand and at the National Medical Qigong Hospital and Training Centre in Beidaihe, China.
